During the healing process, it is especially important not to compare yourself to other patients or friends. Your body is unique and will heal at its own pace. This depends upon your genetics, general health, age, skin type and the procedure performed.
The patients who have the fastest and most comfortable recoveries are those who are healthy to begin with—patients who don’t smoke and who are within a normal weight range. You should also avoid medications and supplements that increase bleeding such as aspirin, Motrin, vitamin E and other herbs. Dr. Aminpour can provide a list of these items and they should be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
Unfortunately, all surgeries result in some bruising, discoloration and swelling before your final results become apparent. All of our patients go through this process and say it is well worth the aftercare period to experience the results they now enjoy.
It is important that you allow yourself to rest completely for the first 24 hours during surgery. During this time it is advised that you postpone making any important decisions and that you avoid driving, operating machinery, traveling alone or drinking alcohol.
Assistance During Recovery
It is essential that you have a friend, relative or spouse care for you during the first 24 hours of your recovery. Dr. Aminpour and his staff can also make suggestions for recovery centers with full-service nurse attendance to assist you during aftercare. While you will not be confined to a bed during recovery, it is important that you do not strain yourself and that you pay attention to your body’s signals to provide extra care and attention as needed.
Physical Activity After Face Surgery
All facial surgeries require a certain amount of rest and limitation from exercise and strenuous activity during recovery. The normal recovery period is 4 to 6 weeks, but you should ask Dr. Aminpour what is advised depending on your specific procedure or combination of procedures.

Dr. Aminpour does not use any “packing” in the nose after a rhinoplasty surgery, which makes for a much less painful follow up visit and often easier breathing. It is important to avoid intensely blowing your nose and wearing glasses for the first six weeks after your surgery. It is also very important to avoid bumping your nose or rubbing or touching your nose too roughly.

Immediately after facelift surgery, your face will be wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising. Dressings normally stay in place for 48 to 72 hours. Ice packs will also help reduce swelling and discomfort, and Dr. Aminpour will prescribe or advise over-the-counter pain medication.
Follow up visits are schedule to ensure incisions are healing properly and to provide dressings and bandages to be used during recovery. We ensure a proper fit of these bandages and answer any questions you may have at this time.
The majority of swelling will reduce in a few weeks, but it is not unusual to experience swelling for up to six months following your face surgery.

During recovery from eyelid surgery, cold compresses can be used to reduce discomfort. It is also important that the eyes stay moisturized, so Dr. Aminpour will prescribe eye moisturizing drops for this purpose. It is advised that patients avoid activities that tend to dry out the eyes such as staring at screens, including TV screens, computer screens and personal devices.
Dr. Aminpour and his staff are available for patient questions at any time and regularly check in with patients to ensure their recovery is smooth and progressing as expected.
